The main route from London Euston changes once, at Chester. Avanti West Coast gets you there in about 2h 04m, with three stops, and Transport for Wales covers the rest to Llandudno in about 64 minutes, with nine stops. The trip took about 3h 36m on a weekday, including around 28 minutes to change at Chester. The Transport for Wales train from Chester runs through to Llandudno station itself, with no second change at Llandudno Junction.
Trains on this route left Euston about hourly from 08:00 to 16:02: on the hour for the 08:00 and 09:00, then at two minutes past. The 28 minutes at Chester give some slack, but if the Avanti West Coast train from Euston is badly late, the next Transport for Wales departure from Chester to Llandudno is usually about an hour behind.
For an earlier start, the weekday timetable had journeys from Euston that change at Runcorn instead, from 06:36 and then mostly at 43 minutes past the hour until 16:43. At about 3h 55m they were around 20 minutes slower than the Chester route, with the same single change. Journeys changing at Warrington Bank Quay and Llandudno Junction left at half past every hour from 07:30 to 18:30 and took about 3h 36m, the same as via Chester but with two changes.

Driving the 251 miles via the M1 and M6 takes nearly five hours, so the train via Chester beats the car by more than an hour.
