Liverpool to Llandudno by Train

By Llandudno Guide editors · Updated 22 October 2026

Catch the direct Transport for Wales train from Liverpool Lime Street to Llandudno. It takes about 1h 51m, calls at 14 stations and needs no change. On a weekday it left Lime Street at around 47 minutes past each hour, from 06:46 to 18:48. Its typical and quickest times were within a minute of each other, so there is no slow train in the pattern to avoid.

After the last direct train

The 18:48 was the final through train on the weekday timetable, so for an evening start you need the other route, which begins at Liverpool Central instead of Lime Street. Merseyrail takes about 46 minutes to Chester, Transport for Wales runs on to Llandudno Junction in about 52, and a short connecting train covers the last 11 minutes into Llandudno.

That route ran at 07:59, 10:59, 13:59, 16:59 and 19:59, and took about two hours in total, only around eleven minutes more than the direct train from Lime Street. The 19:59 from Liverpool Central is the one that matters most, since it leaves more than an hour after the last direct service. The two changes, at Chester and at Llandudno Junction, leave only about 13 minutes of waiting between them, so a late Merseyrail train into Chester puts the rest of the trip at risk.

Other weekday routings from Liverpool, including some that finish by bus from Llandudno Junction, took longer, from about 2h 20m upwards.

Arriving

Both routes finish at Llandudno station, 650 metres and about nine minutes on foot from Mostyn Street.

The 58-mile drive along the A55 takes about 1h 27m, so the car is quicker than either train, but the direct service from Lime Street spares you any change at all.
